Pink slips and data theft

Dutko Summary: Today's downward economic trends have created significant changes in corporations.  Most notably, laid-off employees have become the corporate world's most significant threat to data security.   Many experts purport that once an employee receives notice of being laid off, it is already too late to protect the company from data theft.  In the UK, officials have termed the effect as "de-perimeterization."  Essentially, boundaries have been torn down, granting significant access to corporate information to a large amount of employees.  Further, firewalls preventing external sources from getting in can easily be climbed over by internal personnel.  Currently, the most popular solution is to move large amounts of data around in the weeks prior to laying off an individual, but often, even that is not enough.
